Camp
Digest August 9
Wow! What a fun first day of camp. We spent
the first morning "getting to know you," with a variety of acting games
and partner yoga. Each group went to music class and learned "Consider
Yourself." Most groups tie-dyed their camp t-shirts. The Orange group made
puppet theatres. Hula hoops and kickballs at lunch!
Camp Digest August 10
Campers learned "How to Audition" in special workshops taught by
Laura. Rachel led fun outdoor activities for red, orange and blue
groups, and led guided relaxation for pink and yellow groups. Roberta
taught a partner yoga massage sequence to green, purple, tie-dye and red
groups. Music lessons with Ceci all day! Campers learned "Stage Lingo."
Emily D. and Emma did face painting with the red group. Orange group
made puppets! We all introduced our plays and Orange group cast
theirs.
Camp
Digest August 11
All our shows are cast! Campers bravely stood up
in front of their peers and tried out for parts. Our directors/counselors
blocked all the plays (where to stand on stage) and asked campers to
memorize their lines. All were wonderful and will be terrific in
whatever part they ended up with! To end the day, Roberta led a meditation
workshop for the tie-dye, red, purple and green groups, and Rachel led
vigorous outdoor yoga for orange, blue, pink and yellow! Face
painting was lots of fun!

Digest August 12
Laura led Open Air Acting Workshops and Rachel
continued to boost our heart health with great outdoor activities! Very
competitive auditions for I'd Do Anything and Consider Yourself solos in
the green, red and purple groups led by Roberta, Sam and Joe. We try to
give every camper who tries out either a solo, a featured singing part or
a featured dancing part (dancers also sing with the chorus). It's camp so
we want everyone to be happy but of course when several children want the
same part it's difficult. They are all so good. We know everyone will be
great in their parts and, as we told the campers, it's brave to stand up
and sing by yourself no matter what happens. Great job
everyone! Hard Knock Life auditions for pink/yellow groups;
fortunately a smaller number tried out and everyone was able to get a
singing solo. Blue/Orange groups had a fun messy time doing a
special arts and crafts activity with Sarah's mom Sue! Roberta was so busy
with auditions she didn't take any pictures so here's a picture from
yesterday's meditation workshop!
Camp
Digest August 13
We had an amazing end to an amazing week as the full camp got together at
the end of the day to watch run-throughs of It's a Hard Knock Life and I'd
Do Anything! Wow! All the campers' and counselors' hard work paid off with
two terrific performances. Roberta started the day for Orange
campers with yoga stories and relaxation. Rachel led kickboxing and yoga
during the day for orange, pink, blue and yellow. Drew, Julia,
Amanda, Phil and Dan painted our first piece of scenery for Oliver!
Check it out in the picture, left! Orange and blue campers always
want to play Drip, Drip, Drop, so parents, please consider packing a
bathing suit or change of clothes!
Camp
Digest August 16: Tech campers joined us
today and started learning how to run the light board, organize costumes
and props and more.
CIT Laura Baker joined the Green group and Becky Pittman joined the
Tie-Dye group. The lights, stage and sound equipment got delivered
and the stage is being built right now! We rehearsed the full camp
in Consider Yourself. Roberta led yoga for the Blue group this morning.
Lots of great rehearsing in all the groups. Here's a picture of the
yellow and pink groups rehearsing It's a Hard Knock Life!
Camp
Digest August 17:
Heavy rehearsal schedule today with full run-throughs for scenes 6-9 plus
individual practices running throughout the day. The youngest campers took
a long break from rehearsing and enjoyed water balloon games with Sarah,
Alisha, Samantha and Renee. Sam and Emily D. led guided meditations for
actors in pink/yellow and Laura worked with the blue group. Tech campers started learning lighting and sound cues.
Stage construction continued. The costumes
are all organized and dress rehearsals start tomorrow afternoon!
Camp
Digest August 18:
Our first full run-through, whew, great job everyone! After all that hard
work, lots of outdoor activities to relax and have fun! Tech crew hard at
work on the set -- take a look! (That's the blue group rehearsing)
Camp
Digest August 19: Parent meeting this morning. Dress rehearsals all day; all
the tech was up and running. It's fun to have the spotlight on you!
The stage and set are finished; the costumes and props are ready to go! Great
improvements keep happening. It's the miracle of theatre! We
can't wait for tomorrow's show!
Camp Digest August 20:
Showtime! The campers did an amazing job! Thanks to our wonderful
counselors and staff for making camp happen. Some of our comments from
parents: "Thanks, an amazing job!" "My son, the athlete, developed a
new interest!" "What a great experience for each child!" "The counselors
are so much fun!" The tech crew and our parent helpers were
fabulous; thanks everyone for all your hard work!
