Class Descriptions:

Kripalu Yoga (All levels)
Kripalu Yoga develops mind, body and spirit in a compassionate, non-judgmental way.  You are guided to move at your own pace, honoring your body's needs in each moment.  You will stretch and tone muscles, and leave feeling energized and refreshed. All classes include pranayama (breathing exercises) and deep relaxation; some include seated meditation and Yoga Nidra. All Kripalu classes at the Prana Center include suggestions for modifications as needed.

Yoga with Weights (All levels) This powerful class adds low amounts of resistance to aid in building lean muscle and bone density. It is wonderful for toning and weight management. The perfect class if you are looking to get stronger in a safe, controlled setting.  Appropriate for all levels, including beginners.  The teachers use a variety of tools, including hand weights, resistance bands and stability balls for a fun and varied practice.

Slow Flow. (All levels)  This flowing class incorporates total body/breath awareness by beginning with centering and pranayama. Students are then led through a series of spinal warm-ups before starting a slow vinyasa flow. At this slower pace, movement and breath are linked and the body is less prone to injury. Slow flow is ideal for all levels – beginners can grasp new postures more easily at this pace, and advanced practitioners will be challenged to hold poses for a longer period of time.

Restorative Yoga. (All levels) This 75-minute candlelight class weaves in gentle movement and stretching with a series of prop-supported postures that are passively held, unwinding deeply-held tension and restoring balance.  Class ends with extended deep relaxation to ease into a good night's sleep.

Mindfulness Meditation (for everyone, done seated on a cushion or in a chair).  Explore the art and science of mindfulness meditation! This one-hour gathering is mainly experiential (you will learn and develop confidence through practice), but there is time to ask questions and share comments. Appropriate for all levels of experience, from first-timers to experienced practitioners.  This type of meditation, sometimes called vipassana or Insight meditation, is a simple technique rooted in ancient Eastern tradition. It has been scientifically proven to improve health and overall quality of life, reduce anxiety and depression, increase concentration, and strengthen the ability to cope with stress in every day life.

Yoga Core (All levels) A great class for anyone who wants to strengthen core muscles and build overall physical strength.  A variety of methods are used from class to class, including work with Yoga Balls, mat work, core building during Vinyasa and more.

Vinyasa Flow  The asanas (postures) are linked together by breath in a continuous flow. This practice can give you cardiovascular benefits, and increase muscles strength, endurance and flexibility. Must be familiar with basic poses (down dog, plank, up dog) (NOT a hot yoga class)

Prenatal Yoga (for women at any stage of pregnancy and the months after delivery)  Yoga is a wonderful way to stay fit and relaxed during pregnancy, and increases energy and vitality. You will learn how to breathe more fully, and prepare your body and mind for childbirth. Classes include time for sharing with the other women in the class.

Beginners Yoga (for first-timers, those with less than 6 months experience, or anyone who wants to brush up on the basics).  Have you been curious about Yoga but haven't come because you think you're "not enough"?  Not flexible enough? Not fit enough? Not thin enough?  Please let that go - and come exactly as you are!  Yoga is for everyone. In this highly supportive class, you will learn the basics of postures, alignment and breath.  Learn strategies to help you practice safely and develop confidence.  Class moves at a gentle pace with opportunity for questions and individual attention.  Each week offers a complete yoga experience with centering, warm-ups, postures for stretching and strengthening, and deep relaxation. Pre-registration required.
