Monday, July 10

First day of camp!  We spent the morning getting to know everyone with lots of acting games, Camp Bingo and fun!  Afternoon dressing up and doing skits and pantomime.  Roberta ended the day with guided relaxation for everyone!

We had record attendance for morning yoga - lots of fun and a great way to start the day!

Tuesday, July 11

Lots of water today - from the water games for yellow, orange and blue ... to the tie-dyeing ... to the sweat rolling off the faces of yellow, orange and blue kickboxers! (with guest teacher Rachel Ruel from the Prana Center)  Blue, orange and yellow have already cast their plays and everyone got a great part!  Green is casting tomorrow.  Purple and red started writing their own plays today.  We both have fun, crazy ideas!

We welcomed five new children today who are participating in My First Drama Camp!  They did face-painting, pantomime, singing and more with Sarah, Phil, Chelsey, Erik, Roberta and the blue and orange groups.

Accompanist Joanne Hines was with purple and red and taught two songs from Pirates of Penzance. Julia taught a fun dance from High School Musical to everyone who signed up to learn it!  And Roberta led a meditation workshop for all except orange and blue, who were enjoying mask-making with Jessica, Abby and Sarah (see photo!)

A packed day!  We loved it!

Wednesday, July 12

Green and purple enjoyed water games - red was so into their play they decided unanimously to skip water and keep writing!  Scene 1 is done and rehearsed.  We're keeping it secret for now!  Nineteen campers auditioned for solos and all who tried out got a solo or a duet (for the soft voices).  They are all brave just to try out!  Lots of face painting today.   Green did their auditions - now every play is cast!  (There are parts left for campers joining us next week of course!)

Thursday, July 13

Rachel taught dancing and more!  We began costuming.  Lots of playwriting and play rehearsing.  More water games!  Imagination exercises, singing for orange, blue and First Drama kids.  Becky and Emma led improv games with lots of crazy props!

Julia's lunchtime dancers continued to work hard (see photo!)

Friday, July 14

Pirates of Penzance soloists (photo - The Pirate King!) spent most of the morning with Joanne and Roberta  - the full camp joined us before lunch.   Their energy was amazing!  Green group has been enjoying arts and crafts with beads.  Yellow group made microphones with Abby and Jessica!  Orange and blue got wet again and worked on their plays! Purple and red are very close to finishing our plays.  Everyone rehearsed. We're all costumed.  Roberta ended the day with a Yoga Nidra experience (a  kind of guided relaxation) based on her new CD.

Monday, July 17

Orange, blue, yellow and purple met new campers!  Guest teacher Karen Dinehart taught red, purple and green articulation, modulation and volume skills.  She also did creative acting games with orange, blue and yellow (see photo)!  A steamy day outside the main air-conditioned hall so lots of water games.  Red and purple finished their plays.  Joanne was here and Roberta choreographed Pirates of Penzance songs!

Tuesday, July 18

Big rehearsing day!  We showed our plays to each other (purple group, photo).  Everyone is doing a great job.  The First Drama Kids joined Orange for a fun crown-making arts & crafts activity.

Wednesday, July 19

Joanne was here in the morning and we polished up our Pirates songs!   We had a "costume parade" (checked out all the costumes) and rehearsed with props.  The counselors "traded" campers for an hour in the afternoon for some fun activities, including partner yoga with orange and arts/crafts with green.  Here's a picture of the yellow group rehearsing!

Thursday, July 20

Our first dress rehearsal!  We put the whole show together, starting with Orange's Princess and the Pea and working through all the groups, the dances and the song! Everyone worked hard and did their best.  The Pirates of Penzance rock!  (see photo)  Showtime tomorrow at 2.  Door open 1:40

Show time!  Great job everyone!  We'll look forward to seeing many of you in August and hopefully all of you sometime soon!  Remember to check the Pirates of Penzance home page for info on auditions, sign-ups for the Performance Workshop (grades 3-4) and save the date info!  Here's a photo of my morning yoga kids - it was great doing yoga with so many of you every morning at 8!
