Monday, July 31 (first day of August
camp is in July?)
Tuesday, Aug. 1 Wednesday, Aug. 2 We managed to beat the heat! Choreographer Mike B. worked with tie-dye and red. Campers from green, purple and red (and yellow boys) auditioned for solos in the full camp song (other campers have solos in their own groups). We picked solos and then blocked out the full camp song. Lots of water games! (yellow group, photo) Thursday, Aug. 3 Blocking has begun and some groups are fully blocked! (Actors learning where to stand and move on stage for their scene.) Mike B. was back and the dancers are looking hot! Sharon and Joanne have been busy adapting music for the children's voices and adding in harmonies and featured parts. Of course, more water games (I admit, this photo was staged by the girls!) Friday, Aug. 4 What a fun first week of camp! We ended the day with partner massage led by Suzanne and sharing our favorite moments of the week. Earlier, Sharon and Joanne worked with pink, yellow, tie-dye, red, orange, blue and full camp soloists. All the groups worked hard on their scenes and songs. Guest teacher Ellen Freedman taught a mask-making and acting workshop to green, purple, pink and yellow (see photo). Julia led a choreography workshop and Katie led write-your-own-scene! Have a great weekend and see you Monday! Monday, Aug. 7 The full camp got together this morning and the big number is lookin' good! After pouring rain this morning, lunchtime was beautiful in the church's lovely backyard - here's a little after-lunch photo. Our featured dancers worked with the choreographer today and harmony singers and soloists just keep getting better. Tech campers joined us today! Tuesday, Aug. 8 We ran and worked the entire show today! Orange and blue made a crazy fun substance out of corn starch, water and food dye! One camper (no kidding) said of the project "this is the most fun thing I've ever done in my entire life!" so that sounds like a huge success. Run-throughs ended at 2, and Mike B. came in for some dancing and Roberta did yoga with blue and orange at the end of the day. Joanne and Roberta did an audition workshop for Pirates of Penzance and about 20 campers attended, learning two songs. The rest of the camp did an outdoor sing-along. Wednesday, Aug. 9 After a quick dance rehearsal, we ran straight through the entire show today - everyone did a great job! Tech campers took notes on lighting, sound effects, props and costumes. Today was our last day at the church - off to the middle school tomorrow and Friday. Roberta did partner yoga with everyone this afternoon, divided into two sessions. One session also did a "conscious listening" exercise and shared their thoughts after. Tomorrow: costume parade and two dress rehearsals! 8 a.m. Yoga is at the Prana Center. Thursday, Aug. 10 Two dress rehearsals in one day! This picture says it all (our accompanist, Joanne, the only one on the job every second of the day!) Showtime tomorrow 1:30. Doors open 1:15. Can't wait!
Friday, Aug. 11
Showtime!
Great job, everyone! We got rave reviews! See you for
